Seeking 30 mentors of color by February 28, 2020!

Happy National Mentoring Month! This fiscal year, we will create and support 160+ matches.  To reach this goal, we must create more than 50 new matches.  I am proud to report that we are on track to exceed 50% of our goal very soon.  Today, I write to you about our new recruitment campaign called “The Big 30.”

In July, and as part of our ongoing social justice commitment, our Board of Directors set a strategic recruitment goal for 50% of all new Big recruits to be mentors of color. While we acknowledge that diversity comes in many forms and that our current Big Brothers and Big Sisters bring valuable varied lived experience to the table, we also acknowledge a strong need to recruit more mentors of color. With 94% of our Littles and 17% of our Bigs identifying as people of color, I hope you will understand, affirm, and share this priority with us. To that end, WE NEED YOUR HELP.

Our current goal is to recruit 30+ passionate, qualified, dedicated African American mentor candidates (25+ men and 5+ women) to have the backs of future Littles on our long waiting list. Should you know of a great mentor candidate with whom we should connect, please let me know!  I am happy to have a personal conversation with your referral via Zoom, via phone, or safely in person over coffee to explore their interest and answer any questions they may have.
