OCTOBER BIG HUDDLE

BBBSL is pleased to invite Bigs to our next BIG Huddle! Our topic will be Youth and Social Media. Learning objectives include:
🌐 Navigating web and mobile tech
⛔ Setting boundaries for interactions
🤔 Addressing concerns with adult content
🌱 Using social media to grow and connect
❓ Time for Bigs to ask questions
We hope you will participate!
Big Huddles are designed to support our Bigs as they continue to grow into strong mentors and help us to bring you content/training that addresses the questions/requests for support you bring up in your monthly or quarterly match support calls. They also provide you with an opportunity to connect with other Bigs. We received positive feedback from our past installments—“Youth, Emerging Sexuality, & Mentoring,” “The BIG Experience, ” and “Poverty, Toxic Stress & Mentoring”—and we are committed to providing more valuable resources ongoing!

October Safety Focus
Does your Little or child know the phone number of at least one trusted adult to call in case of an emergency? If not, now’s a great time to make sure they do! Knowing how to reach a trusted adult can make all the difference in a crisis, helping your Little or child feel safer and more confident when they need help.
To make it fun, try turning memorization into a game! You could create a catchy song or rhyme using the phone number, practice dialing the number on a toy phone, or even play a memory game by writing the digits on flashcards. Repetition is key, so make it an activity you revisit often.
It’s also important to talk to youth about when they should ask for help. Explain that emergencies can include things like getting lost, feeling scared or unsafe, or seeing someone get hurt. Let them know it’s okay to reach out when they feel unsure. Reassure them that knowing when and how to contact a trusted adult is a responsible and brave step toward taking care of themselves and others.
