Summer is in full swing at BBBSL! Whether you’re cruising the waterways, beating high scores, or cracking the code to an Escape Room, this season offers countless opportunities for fun and growth. Here are a few key points to ensure a safe and fulfilling summer for our Littles:

Stay Connected: Consistency is key in maintaining strong mentor-mentee relationships. Regular check-ins, even if they’re just a quick call or text, can make a big difference in your Little’s summer experience. 🥳 Celebrate July match anniversaries
Explore New Activities: Consider planning activities that your Little has shown interest in but hasn’t had the chance to explore. From visiting local parks and museums to trying out a new hobby, these experiences can be both fun and educational. 🎉 RSVP to summer parties and match activities!
Prioritize Safety: With increased outdoor activities, safety becomes even more crucial. Remind your Littles about the importance of staying hydrated, applying sunscreen, and being aware of their surroundings. ⚠️ High-risk fun — do’s and don’ts
Support Emotional Well-being: Summer break can sometimes bring feelings of loneliness or boredom. Be attentive to your Little’s emotional needs and provide a listening ear. ☀️ Watch this BIG Huddle recap

With so many opportunities for summer fun, there’s no better time to review tips for navigating requests and managing high-risk activities.
A High-Risk Activity Form, signed by both the Big and the Little’s parent/caregiver, must be submitted to BBBSL prior to participating in any high-risk activity. Examples of high-risk activities include, but are not limited to hunting, boating, rock climbing, river rafting, etc.
If you’re planning an outing that may be considered high-risk or if you’re unsure whether it qualifies, please contact BBBSL before proceeding. We’re here to support you in providing safe, fun, and enriching experiences for your Little.

No matter your values or beliefs, our last BIG Huddle is an important watch…
Most Littles in our program are coming of age and forming their identities. They may very well turn to trusted adults — including Bigs — with questions that pertain to potentially sensitive topics.
In our most recent BIG Huddle, we discuss the following ways to support your Little, should they opt to share details or ask questions about sexual orientation and gender identity:
- Use respectful language related to sexual orientation and gender identity/expression
- Respond appropriately if/when a young person comes out to you
- Maintain confidentiality and handle disclosures responsibly
- Help a Little navigate potential family and peer responses
