Bigs — you are the heartbeat of our organization and hold a special understanding of the profound difference mentorship can make in a young person’s life. Because of your unique perspective, we hope to ask for YOUR help finding MORE NEW Bigs.
Right now, there are 200+ kiddos on our waiting list, which means we need to find 15-20 new mentors each month. The good news is that our Littles do not need perfection. In our quest to empower youth, we’ve uncovered a powerful truth: our Littles all have #3BIGThings they want in a mentor.
These #3BigThings are almost always simple yet meaningful. Fun-loving. Athletic. Honest. Dependable. Caring. Artistic. Good Listener. Ice Cream Lover. Nice. Math Helper. Patient. Funny. Supportive. Likes soccer. The list goes on…
Does someone come to mind? If you know someone – a friend, family member, colleague, or neighbor who may be interested in becoming a mentor, we encourage you to share this newsletter and invite them to learn more.
You can also contact us via merridith@bbbslowcountry.org or 843-480-4776. PLUS, if your referral decides to become a Big, we will send you a $50 THANK YOU activity gift card for you and your Little! We thank you in advance for your help, AND as always, we thank you for ALL you do for your Little!

Click the image above to launch the video on WHAT NOT TO DO if your Little/Scholar comes out to you.
The reality is that the VAST MAJORITY of you have Littles who are tweens or teens, and BECAUSE you are a trusted adult, you are LIKELY to be among the friends/important adults your Littles will turn to if they have something important to share about regarding their sexual orientation or gender. Knowing this COULD be a little unnerving even for those who feel fully prepared, so….
Within this video, we will explore:
- The data
- Our POLICY requiring Bigs to NEVER out our Littles to ANYONE and what TO DO if your Little shares with you
- Why this is the BIGGEST compliment
- Why this is a child safety/welfare issue
- Our invitation to support YOU
