Candice & Makenzie: Celebrating 8 Years!

This October, Big Sister Candice and her Little, Makenzie celebrated their eighth year together. From countless memories to the special traditions they’ve built over time, their match continues to highlight the power of consistent, long-term mentorship.
Candice shares:
“When Makenzie and I were first matched eight years ago, most of our time was spent playing endless games of UNO and grabbing Chick-fil-A. Over the years, we’ve created so many memories together — from our annual pumpkin-carving tradition to baking days in the kitchen. It’s hard to choose just one favorite memory because there have been so many along the way. One that stands out is when Makenzie came up with the idea to collect donations for people experiencing homelessness. She’s grown into such a caring, thoughtful person with a huge heart for helping others. I’ve learned so much throughout this journey, and I’m so grateful for all the laughter, talks, and milestones we’ve shared through the years.”
Stories like Candice and Makenzie’s remind us that one connection can truly make a lifetime of difference.

2025 BIG Raise: Thank You!
Thank you to everyone who rallied behind our mission throughout the month of October for this year’s BIG Raise. Thanks to your generosity and commitment, we exceeded our goal of $50,000—a milestone that directly supports life-changing mentoring relationships across the Lowcountry. We truly could not have achieved this without the incredible support of our dedicated fundraisers, community members, and everyone who shared, donated, and championed our cause. We can’t thank you enough. This achievement will directly impact the future of our organization and the support we are able to provide through our services to the youth we serve. A special thank you to Hang 10 Car Wash for matching every dollar raised up to $50,000. Their partnership and support played a vital role in the success of this year’s BIG Raise, and we are deeply grateful. Thank you all!

Entering the Season of Giving
As we move into the season of giving, we invite our community to help us continue igniting the potential of youth across the Lowcountry. Whether you volunteer, support an event, or make a contribution, your generosity directly fuels life-changing relationships for the young people we serve.
BBBS of America’s 120th Anniversary (November 19th)
This year marks a historic milestone—120 years of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Since 1904, millions of mentoring relationships have helped youth build confidence, develop lifelong skills, and feel supported by a caring adult. Here in the Lowcountry, we are proud to continue this legacy of empowering young people through the power of mentorship.
International Children’s Day (November 20)
International Children’s Day recognizes the rights, dignity, and well-being of children worldwide. At BBBSL, we are committed to ensuring every child feels supported, encouraged, and seen. Strong, consistent mentoring relationships help create the safe and uplifting environments all children deserve.
