The BIG News: March 2026

Recognizing Women’s History Month
Women’s History Month is a time to recognize the resilience, leadership, and lasting impact of women, past, present, and future. This month, we celebrate the incredible women who show up every day to lead, uplift, and inspire the next generation.
At Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lowcountry, 45% of the youth we serve are girls. Girlhood is a pivotal and formative time, and having a consistent, caring mentor can make all the difference. We are deeply grateful for the women who step up as mentors, empowering young girls in our community to grow in confidence, discover their potential, and build bright futures.
As we celebrate the women shaping our world, we remain committed to expanding our reach and impact for the girls who need us most.

Career Readiness Framework:
Big Steps Toward Bright Futures!
Career Readiness Update
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lowcountry continues to build momentum with our enhanced Career Readiness framework within the Community-Based Mentoring Program, launched in November 2025. In just the first few months, mentors and youth have already begun incorporating intentional conversations about future goals into their matches.
Since the launch, 44 individualized career-related goals have been established between Bigs and Littles, encouraging youth to think about their interests, aspirations, and potential career pathways. Matches have also participated in two career-focused activities, including a Goal Setting and Vision Board Workshop and a career exploration experience featuring chef and television personality Kardea Brown.
To support these conversations, BBBSL developed and distributed three educational resource packets focused on goal setting, career exploration, and college and military readiness. These tools help mentors guide meaningful discussions about life after high school and introduce youth to the many possibilities ahead of them.
As this initiative continues to grow, we are excited to see our Littles gaining confidence, exploring new opportunities, and taking steps toward their future with the support of their mentors.

Planetarium Match Activity

Our matches recently came together for a special visit to the Charleston Planetarium, where Bigs and Littles explored the wonders of space and discovered more about the universe around them. From learning about planets and constellations to experiencing the night sky in a whole new way, it was exciting to see curiosity spark and conversations unfold between our matches.
Moments like these allow Littles to explore new interests, ask big questions, and imagine what their future could hold. With encouragement and guidance from their Bigs, experiences like this help build confidence, curiosity, and a sense of possibility. They are powerful reminders of how mentorship can open new worlds for the young people we serve.

Because of the generosity and enthusiasm of our community, we can continue expanding mentorship opportunities for youth across the Lowcountry and ensuring more Littles have the guidance and encouragement they deserve.
